Reflecting on your novel as a movie...Award winner or 'Flop of the Year'??

Hello again, Gentlemen!

Your second blog post should consider the suitability of your novel as a feature film. You might like to consider some of the following:

  • Would it transfer well, with lots of action scenes, or would it be difficult to tell the story through film? Explain your viewpoint.
  • Who would be the casting director's best choice for each of the main roles?
  • Would the setting be easy to reproduce for a film? Why? Where would you shoot it?
  • Do you see opportunities for the marketing team to make millions from the film? Does the plot lend itself to a game? Will McDonald's release a burger and toy? (The 'Cherub Burger' and action figure perhaps..?)
  • Let your imagination free! What do YOU think? Would it be a film you would take your friends to?

Start your own reflective reading blog...

Hi Guys!!

As part of our wide reading unit you will be expected to use a blog to reflect on the ideas, issues and themes in the book you have chosen . You must keep your blog 'active' for at least 6 weeks from TODAY.

Your first blog post will:

  • Have a sharp and catchy title.

  • Be chatty and informative (The personal nature of blogs means that their tone can be informal. However, this does not mean inappropriate language)

  • Use first person 'I'

  • Include a brief outline of the book so far. What's it about? (Don't give too much away!) Who are the characters? Why did you choose it? Where/When is it set?

  • Include opinions about the book. Does it start well? Would it make a good film? Would other boys like to read it? Is the main character believable?

  • Include some Reflections on issues, ideas and themes. These comments might highlight strange character behaviour, discuss related issues in the news, predict problems in the text, and question things that happen etc

Reflections

"At the start of the novel the main character, a teenager named Luke, is involved in a fight over 'nothing' which becomes 'something' because he cannot control his anger. I think dealing with negative emotions such as anger will be an important issue in this novel. I get the feeling Luke will have a battle on his hands and if he doesn't learn to deal with his anger he is going to get into some serious trouble by the end of the book.

It reminds me a bit of all the violence in the news at the moment, particularly amongst teenagers in the city."
